Cancel subscription and then switch to credit, but between...?

Hello, I have a doubt about the procedure to switch hobby plan from usage to credit based. Maybe the information is somewhere here, but it stills unclear for me.

But what happens in the middle:
Deploys are paused until I charge? Starter plan with the one-time grant?
Is possible to switch without any interruption?

After some point always had usage below $2.5, after the plan changes I got resources unused, that doesn't make much sense for me 😵‍💫

switching to credit based doesn't solve that? you will still be charged 5$ a month (since your 2.5$ in usage is covered by the 5$ in usage credits)
in fact its a less ideal situation, since you can only load 10$ as the minimum

As I understand, you charge one time and then you can use it until the credits end. I don't have problem with the minimum of 10$

correct, there is a minimum fee of 5$ regardless if you use credits or automatic bill payments

It's half intuitive, following the phrase "you pay what you use", but at the same time it would be unfair with the "by default, railway will cost 5$/mo"

Btw, assuming that is not the first time you do this, whose are the common motives for switching?

people are afraid if getting charged for a ddos or something like an infinite loop in their code
- cloudflare
- railway emails you about your high resource usage, you fix bug, resource usage goes back down
getting hit with an unknown bill is only possible if you never check your emails

Also returning to the question, are the deploys stopped when you are cancel plan? or else

well its slightly hard for me to answer something i have no experience with, but going solely off the fact that you get a 3 day grace period on late payments, id say you would have time to switch plans yourself without downtime
of course if you did want to go through with it, I would bring in ray to give us an accurate answer

As the common Q&A in pricing has: "What happens when I cancel my subscription?" maybe the answer could be more complete

When you cancel your subscription, if you're on Hobby, Pro, or Enterprise, your plan will remain active through the end of your current billing period

then acording to this, you have until the end of your billing period to get back on the credit plan before stuff stops
