Not receiving email to login
Hello,
I recently updated my email on my railway account because the domain switched and now I can't login to my account anymore. When I use the updated email I'm not receiving an email to login and when I use my previous email I get the email but get an internal server error when trying to complete the sign in flow. How can I fix this issue?
Note: I'm not sure what my project ID is because I can no longer login to my account.
Thanks!

what's the old email and what's the new email?
Old email is [email protected] and new email is [email protected]
you're Pro I assume?
I believe so but not 100% positive
do you still have access to the GitHub account associated with the Railway account?
No, I disconnected the Github account when updating the email because I think it was connected to a Github account with a different email address. I was trying to get everything associated with the correct email [email protected]
hmmm tricky situation, you should have first updated the email within your account settings before you knew you where going to lose access to the old email
I believe I did update the email first and I also still have access to all of the old email accounts if that will help the situation? I just don't have access to the Github account because I don't think it exists anymore
previously, did you login to railway using magic or GitHub SSO?
magic
and you still have access to the old email account?
Correct. When I use the old email I get the magic email but get an internal server error after inputting the code. When I use the updated email I never get an email
Are you sure your new email is accepting emails? we've seen that before with another user
Yes, I've sent multiple emails from other email accounts to test it
Alright, send an email to [email protected] from both old and new emails as a way to verify you have access to them, and then I'll see what I can accomplish
Sent an email from [email protected].
I'm not sure how to send one from [email protected] because the domain switched but it's still the same user. I have email forwarding on for the old domain so I can confirm the email by replying to an email you send to [email protected]
Sorry for the hassle
are you okay with me disclosing the email associated with your Railway account here?
Yeah
[email protected]
- at least this is the email associated with the railway account that is linked to your discord hereCorrect, I was unable to link the [email protected] account because I can't login so I had to create a new account to join the Discord to get help. [email protected] is a separate account than [email protected] but I own both
gotcha, let me look into this further
Thank you
Just incase it helps simplify the solution, the end state I would like to get to is:
1. Transfer all the projects from [email protected] to [email protected]
2. Disconnect all associated Github and other accounts
3. Delete the [email protected] account entirely
[email protected] is a pro account, [email protected] is a Hobby account, did you want to downgrade?
I'll upgrade the new account to a pro account. One second.
why would that be more desirable vs getting access to the pro account back?
I have a former employee who is telling me they can't login to their railway account via Github because it was formerly associated with the [email protected] account. That's why I updated the email and disconnected the GH account, but that still didn't work. I figured creating a new account and transferring everything over and then deleting the account which seems to have a bunch of issues would fix everything
If there's a simpler solution to get him access to his own account and for me to keep access to the [email protected] account then that would also work. I know it's a bit of a mess
so to re-cap, you can't login with [email protected] as you never received the magic link?
Correct
Silly question, you've checked spam right?
Yeah, nothing there either...I wish that was it 😂
And just so that you have all the information, the error message the former employee is getting is:
"This Github account has previously been connected to a different Railway account. Please use that account or delete it in order to use this Github account with the current Railway account."
That's why I was planning on transferring everything and deleting the account
from our side its saying the login email was bounced
Would you be able to revert the email change and set it back to [email protected]? Those emails are coming through but I'm getting that internal server error probably because the emails don't match
where would the emails not be matching?
Sorry, not that they don't match, but the [email protected] is no longer associated with an account
how does that come into play here? that is the old email
Because those emails are not getting bounced and I plan on deleting the account anyway after transferring the projects. So I figured if we could revert the email change(associate the account with [email protected] instead of [email protected]) I could login, do the transfer and then delete the account
Here's the account email change email from Oct 7th, so I would just like to revert this action and I'll login with [email protected]
wouldn't it be best for you to contact your mail provider and work out why the emails are being bounced?
transferring projects for this usecase just seems hacky
I've been trying to solve this for the past couple days and only these emails aren't coming through so I don't think it's my mail provider since I'm getting everything else and if all of it can be solved with a simple email revert then I'd prefer to do that
I would've transferred everything and deleted the account on Oct 7th if I had known I would've ran into this issue by updating the email. I'm happy to provide any information to prove ownership of the account if that would help
should be done
That worked, thank you so much
Hopefully deleting the account solves the other issues
just make sure to transfer the projects first, we can not restore deleted projects
