Looking for Advice on Becoming an Elite Java Developer (Currently Beginner)
Hey everyone đź‘‹,
I’m looking for some direction and would really appreciate input from experienced Java Devs.
I’ve been through multiple courses, videos, and resources, but I always hit the same wall: I never stick to one fully because I keep wondering if I’m missing the “holy grail” resource that will actually make me elite. I’ve gone over the basics many times, but I struggle with tying everything together, like when to use what, how it applies in real-world projects, and how to grow beyond just syntax knowledge.
A few things about me:
I know the basics fairly well, but I’m open to starting fresh to properly retain everything.
I can dedicate serious time (80+ hours/week), so commitment isn’t the issue.
My goal isn’t to be part of the “AI-reliant new-gen” crowd. I want to learn programming properly, build the fundamentals myself, and only then use AI as an accelerator — not a crutch.
What I’m really after is a gold standard learning path or resources that will actually make me a capable developer in a real working environment.
So my questions are:
What resources or structured paths would you recommend that actually add real value and translate into being a strong Java dev in practice?
How do you personally tie the basics together and know when/where to use each concept in real-world projects?
Thanks in advance for any advice 🙏
