Duplicates after backup of phone and Google Photos

Hello! First off all, thanks a lot for developing this awsome project! Discovered it yesterday and already in love 🙂 Here's my problem : I backed up all the pictures of my phone with the android app => went smooth I downloaded the takeout of google photo and loaded it to immich using CLI => went smooth BUT.. all the pictures i had on my phone AND on GPhoto are now duplicated. I guess it's because on my phone they are "original" and on gphoto they are compressed so it's not the same hash for the CLI.. But it's annoying since it's about 10K duplicates, so deleting hand by hand is not an option 😦 Any idea on how to solve this issue? Can I hope for some kind of "duplicate finder" who auto-deletes the same pictures or something like that? Thanks a lot ! 🙂 Best regards,

Immich does not have a duplicate finder. But what I did when I was at the same stage as you was using apps like dupeguru, czkawka, or even digikam. I personally used dupeguru and digikam, and they are great.

Thanks @radh , gonna check out those tools, never heard of them before. Did you delete dupes before uploading to immich or is it possible to scan the immich library directly?

I think deleting media after uploading (directly from the hard drive using other tools) can mess up the database or something. I know it is not recommended. I did everything before I uploaded it to immich

I think it is better to start with a clean instance we dedup based on the file content (hash) so if the hash is different then the files will be uploaded

alright thanks a lot to the both of you. Quick sub-question: the tool (used dupeguru) works greats! Do you know any tool like that to remove all the "garbage-pictures" (screenshots, scans, meme, idiotic "funny" pictures, you get the point.. 😄 ) ?

I am not aware of any tool that can do that. But hell, even I have an immense collection of that garbage pictures. lol

If you are using mobile to upload. In Android, you can just choose to upload the "camera' folder so just the pics to take are uploaded
