Cant Get External Libraries to Work - Directory Confusion?

I have been using Immich without external libraries for a while, I love it, now that it is a feature though I have lots of photos I would like to add from other drives externally. I have a little experience with hosting other things, but I have been trying to figure this out for weeks with no luck and I'm really stuck.
Basically I can't get external Libraries to see anything, empty scans nothing happening, I'm also confused on how to test if my container can even see them at all.
I've checked every posted issue I could on GitHub and on this Subreddit, and I can't figure it out. I appreciate any and all help and advice!
Here's what I've tried:
Moved to Ubuntu, I thought there must have been issues due to file access because of the windows docker, but I'm still having the same issues
I was using an external drive so decided to test on just the /home directory, but still nothing.
Lots of directory name changes, removal of caps or white spaces, etc.
Desired directory:/home/germ/Desktop/ExternalPhotos/ (and its subfolders, in this case I'm testing with /home/germ/Desktop/ExternalPhotos/camera/)
I would also like to know if there's something different I would need to specifically change to use my hard drive: /media/germ/harddrive/photos
Also in docker settings, under file management I also had my external drive path there, but it isn't right now since I'm testing without it.
Photos are attached, likely a lot of extra information, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong, so maybe something sticks out to someone else:

Can you post your docker-compose, .env, screenshot of the edit path for user in the Admin Panel and the path for the Library in the user's settings page?
Can you see the
/mnt/media in the container?
