Horrible Desync
me and my friend have been trying to play together, but out of nowhere, whoever isn't the host suddenly experience insane desync and lag; enemies become unkillable and they start teleporting all over the place. what really confuses me is that i'll restart my pc or the game and like 3 times out of 10 it'll fix it for an hour and it comes back. me posting here is my last resort, as ive done literally fucking everything to try and fix this, here's a list of all I've tried.
-reading the FAQ
-disabling every single mod, it still happens if im vanilla in tmodloader, not on just normal vanilla terraria though.
-restarting PC and the game
-switching who hosts the world, whoever joins experiences the same problems.
-verifying file integrity
-deleting & reinstalling
-switching wifi networks, i'm neighbors with my cousin and I used theirs, still had the same issue. I will use this opportunity though to point out that me and my friend have gigabit internet with a high upload
-fucking factory resetting my PC
-enabling port forwarding via our routers
-following this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2923672646
literally NONE of these worked, ive never had an issue as persistent as this and id really appreciate yall's help with this as i just wanna play calamity with my friend.

Welcome to #support-forum. Before someone helps you, please first consult the information in #TML Troubleshooting Guide and try all the suggestions that might fit your particular issue, especially in the linked FAQ page.
If the information in the pinned thread does not solve your issue, please post all log files by dragging and dropping them into this chat. In Steam right click on
tModLoader
in the library, then hover over Manage
and click on Browse local files
. In the folder that appears find tModLoader-Logs
and open that folder. Inside that folder are the logs files. Select them all except the Old
folder and drag them into this chat. If you need a visual guide to this process watch this: https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/assets/4522492/3f4efa43-753f-4733-b630-ba85e711340cCan you post your logs along with your PC specs? Are you hosting the server locally?

these are from a session where I was host and my friend had insane desync like ~2 minutes ago.
does this occur with no mods?
and could you try without magic storage, disabling autosave?
equal-aquaOP•2y ago
it'll happen with no mods installed, literally vanilla tmodloader, i havent tried no autosave though
So you are hosting but it's your friend experiencing horrible desync even with base TML?
Does the same happen in vanilla Terraria as well?
equal-aquaOP•2y ago
nope, I said in my original post that it's only in tml
no autosave doesn't work

(Steam Instructions) Follow these steps to get a fresh install of your game files:
Terraria Instructions:
1) Delete the
Terraria
folder in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common
. If you're on a non-Windows computer or have Steam installed elsewhere, type .findinstall
in #botworld to get to the tModLoader
folder, then just go back one folder to end up in the common
folder mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall, then reinstall Terraria in Steam.
tModLoader Instructions:
1) Delete the tModLoader
folder in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common
. If you're on a non-Windows computer or have Steam installed elsewhere, type .findinstall
in #botworld to get to this folder.
2) Uninstall, then reinstall tModLoader in Steam.
(Note: your player and world saves are stored in a completely separate folder than the ones mentioned above. If you delete any other folders, we are not responsible for you losing any of your saves.)Do this for both - if it remains busted then I'm not sure what might be causing the desync.
And make sure you follow those guides (as well as https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2997062221) after reinstalling
