Issues with Generator Adapter Removal

has anyone noticed some wierdness around removing the adapter from their generators? if i don't have it, the config layer resolves to an 'any' type...

'config' implicitly has type 'any' because it does not have a type annotation and is referenced directly or indirectly in its own initializer.
