Strange crash/hang when loading into a save

I have to connect to a save anywhere from 6 to 10 times for it to actually let me join. This only started recently and we cannot find the source of the issue. Singleplayer works fine, all the mods work fine in multiplayer. I have plenty of RAM and CPU available or it wouldn't even let me join my own local saves and my internet is 1GB. The last part of the crash that seems relevant is this:

Has anyone seen this crash before? I used to be able to load right into the world without having to try over and over and over. It doesn't always crash, sometimes it's just a host disconnect as well.
