Immich is copying files from eternal library
Hello everyone
I have set up Immich on Truenas. I am very impressed with the software and really enjoying using it. My issue is that it appears Immich is copying files rather than using them from another external library.
I can see my dataset is slowly growing in size. I used "additional storage" on the config page in truenas and then pointed Immich to the folder and scanned. What might I have done wrong and how can i fix this? Id like to only use the external library if possible

Successfully submitted, a tag has been added to inform contributors. :white_check_mark:Immich will locally store thumbnails, transcoded videos and new uploads through the app/webUI
if you want to upload new images you will have to put them in the external lib yourself
If you want to use remote storage for everything, even thumbs, video and new uploads, this is NOT an external library
I understand, so even if i i use exteral library, Immich will still general some content?
Yes, thumbs (preview images) and transcodes will take up almost all of the generated space of this
ok, ive got a 54gb library and so far its made 70gb or content, does that sound right?
also, would you recomend to use eternal library or just upload, is one better than the other?
No that does not sound right, it should be about 10% of the lib
Kindly post your compose and env files š
and logs if possible
ok one moment
thank you for helping
external libraries are ideal for when you don't have the space to re-upload, or are already using another picture library manager
Iām gonna preemptively say again that we really need to add a check for .immich files in the external library
forgive my ignorance but when you ask for log files you are asking for these?

docker compose logs
will be easiest to read, but yes those
Is this dockge or something?its truenas, im just looking for logs and i will post as soon as
ill be one moment
hello again. i know this is probably very basic infomation but does anyone know how to acess the dockercompose.yml in immich or truenas, granted it may be beyond the scope of this. Ive been in ssh and on google trying everything
I am going to try a fresh install. When i use ssh to acess docker compose logs it just says denied. Also, i let immich create the datasets and i actutally cannot see them on my system
Fresh install on truenas or .. ?
of immich
docker compose logs
is from on the truenas system, not immichi cant seem to find the yml
you can't ssh to it, you need to
docker exec -it /bin/bash immich_server
to enter a container, but that's not where the logs arei know i sound stupid, but where on truenas are the logs. sorry for all this
No clue!
Check #truenas perhaps
fair call. ill get back to you
