Installation problems
hey all,
ive been trying to install immich for the first time for a while now. i'm using the docker compose method on a ubuntu 24.04.2 VM., which is running inside Proxmox on a small home server.
I've got it so far that its trying to start the 4 containers.
2 of them are failing. (see picture)
Does anyone have a clue why?
What i have done:
https://immich.app/docs/install/docker-compose
- Followed Step 1 exactly as stated
- In the .env file i've adjusted the UPLOAD_LOCATION and DB_DATA_LOCATION both to point to: /mnt/immich
Then i tried "sudo docker compose up -d" and got the error message "unknown shorthand flag: 'd' in -d".
I've followed the steps that explain the solution to this problem and when re-trying to compose it worked.... sort of.
2 out of 4 containers are running, as shown below in the screenshot.
The other 2 say theyve "started"
/mnt/immich is accessible from the terminal in my VM and i can see the example pictures ive put in there

If this ticket can be closed you can use the /close
command, and re-open it later if needed.UPLOAD_LOCATION and DB_DATA_LOCATION both to point to: /mnt/immich
Well there's your problem.
Should be two different foldersI've made a new directory on my NAS named immich-db, mounted it in the VM and pointed the .env to it
no difference
Logs from immich_server

You can't put postgres on a network share
It should be a local path, to an empty folder
(I believe the specific error is a rights error though)
logs for immich_postgres

yes, you need to use a local folder
Why does nobody read the freaking docs :PepeHands:
https://immich.app/docs/install/requirements
the Postgres database (DB_DATA_LOCATION) should ideally use local SSD storage, and never a network share of any kind
