https://immich.app/docs/administration/backup-and-restoreit's not meant for backups, don't use zips for backup, worse idea ever, what do you think it's Google Takeout? Use immich-go or rsync/rclone or other backup tools. If you're doing it manually, might as well directly connect your other disk to the server and copy the Library folder and Database backup
Humm, i think it's better to take off from SSH directly (if you need to export to your local computer)
@NuKeS did you get anywhere with this? I am also trying to download my 15k photo library because I want to restore the original names which I think download does (the files in my uploads folder have very weird names but downloading them seems to restore the original names) . I want to convert to an external library. Anyway, I select all 15k photos, download the zip, unzip it and I only have about 1k photos. Any ideas?
Are you using storage templating? Because that will do what you want.
No storage templating is off - that was the default when I installed immich. Files in uploads have UUIDs, and the folder structure is hashed (e.g., ab/cd/ef/
Like I said, that will do what you want, turn it on 👀
https://immich.app/docs/administration/storage-template/
Oh great - so I don't have to have it on before I upload? It will re-instate the original names if I switch it on now? Will it also undo the hashed folder structure and move all the files into a flat structure? That will be a good outcome.
Everything is saved in the database, if you turn it on now, you'll have to wait for the library to migrate, but then it will all be saved under the structure you specified
The default storage template uses filenames, you could use the asset ID as well, but that's explicitly what you don't want 😛
thanks I'll give it a go
