Seeking Best Practices for Structuring Effect Code

hi all, very new to effect and trying to understand best practices. if anyone wouldn't mind checking this code and recommending any better/neater/more effect-y ways to structure this, I would really appreciate it. i have like 5 functions or something with this rough structure, so just showing the one for now
