Fps issues despite friend running same modpack and no previous issues
My friend and I started a modded playthrough about 2 weeks ago. Things started off fine, everything running smoothly for both of us, until 1 week later. My game was running in slow motion. The fix for that was turning frame skip on. Fixed the slow motion at the cost of framerate (as low as 9, as high as upper 30s). I also turned lightning to retro and set terraria's priority in task manager to maximum. Where I'm confused is i have an all round better system than he does, and terraria isn't consuming much of my computer resources as is. I have no clue what's happening, as it's going on in single and multiplayer. A way to get it to run smoothly at higher fps would be great. Thank you for your time :)
