Cannot dismantle N-Gon Foundations
Two players on a Windows Dedicated Server - After creating some (haven't tested all) N-Gon foundations, the foundations cannot be dismantled. Attempting to dismantle selects a single triangle segment and the dismantler goes through the process but neither the foundation nor the segment is dismantled. Previously sometimes something would cause the dismantle tool to select the whole foundation at once and it could be dismantled, but we cannot find this behavior any more.

When the server is restarted, the entire foundation is selected by the Dismantler and then it can be dismantled. Restarting (or reloading the save perhaps?) is a last ditch workaround and not optimal when trying to build. :(

And very rarely the player can relog and be able to dismantle it without having to restart the server.
Ahkays then, that is very peculiar. I don't have my dedi server set up atm to be able to troubleshoot but I'll get that sorted and see what I can do about it
I run the DS locally and I can gather any information for you as well with sufficient directions.
Alright, I'll ping if I need ya, thankyou kindly n__n
The behavior does not occur in Single Player, and I did not see anything of note in either server logs or client logs.
Alright, done a little testing now myself; found the issue with the Deca 1m never being able to be dismantled: I'd somehow missed making a connection in the BP.
Now I just gotta figure out why the rest are being like this on server only
Alright, got a partial fix out for that now; still not sure why the segments won't dismantle properly, but at least the main piece can be now; will still have to exit/reenter the server for it to take full effect but at least they can be gotten rid of now
This is an overall issue with dedicated servers that foundations can't be placed or dismantled. I already createt a post for it and many others are having the same issue even without your mod tho.
Vanilla dismantling problems on DS are intermittent and a result of an accidental desync that - on a good server and network - happens rarely if at all. With the N-Gon foundations, it's a very different issue. On SP, the dismantler targets the entire foundation and works. On DS, the dismantler targets each segment of the foundation and doesn't work. Big difference between "A problem that might happen sometimes when the server is overloaded and a network packet is lost" and "A problem that happens 100% of the time in a completely different way."
Ahh I see.
Well I cant really agree with the accidental desync thesis tho. I’m having a kinda good server in a good network. CPU usage is not above 6 percent and I have to relog on the server like every 15 minutes. So I honestly don’t think that it’s caused by an overloaded server
But I was just curious if it might be the same problem. Since I don’t really know what the mod n gon does or adds.
At the same time, I run a local DS and our vanilla game had zero problems except on four occasions with vehicles. That was with an absolute ton of objects too - enough that we eventually had to remove some decorations to avoid exceeding the object count limit.
All good though. Symptoms can sound similar without being similar when there's a lack of detail. "I can't delete this" is one thing when it's "When I try, one in 400 times it selects and appears to dismantle but the piece is still there for me, but another player sees it gone and when I try to land on it, I get into a physics mess bouncing on top" and another entirely when it's "When I try to dismantle a nonagon, 100% of the time it selects each NonPiece instead of the entire foundation, and does no dismantling for me or for any other player. I need to restart the server, and then when I try to dismantle it it selects the whole foundation and dismantles."
Wife wants to use the NGons but rejoining the server every time one needs to be dismantled is not workable. :( We'll hope for that to work eventually but until then we have to not use the mod. T^T
I think I have a fix for this hopefully!
I'm testing it on more than just one of them now to see if it's consistent
We will hope. Thank you!
Just tested; works across the multiple of them, time to apply the fix to all the rest and will have an update out when it is 😄
Update is live!
