Immich looking into wrong folder for full size images

Hello, for some months now I can only see preview images for nearly all images uploaded after a certain date. When I try to look at the full screen image or try to download images or movies I get error messages such as the attached one. The actual images are still present but are in the library/ folder and not the upload/library/ folder. Originally everything was working correctly so I have no idea where this issue is coming from.

No idea if this is relevant but the the issues only exists for images uploaded after 20.02.2025. I could not find anything that seem related in the patch notes near that date. There are also randomly some rare days within the last months where the paths are set correctly. There are no discernible differences between the images from those day and the ones before or after.

All my images are in the same folder. A folder that Immich has permission for and can use. In accordance with that I can see thousands of images without any issues from this location. Each day he puts more images in that folder without any issue.

Now for some images he tried to access files at a location that does not exists and where no files are stored. When he does that he tells me he got no permission to access that file (which does not exists at that location anyway). Permissions are the same for both locations on the filesystem.

Don´t get me wrong. I am looking for help and of course I am willing to look into that. But I wouldn´t know where to start since there are no differences in permission for those locations (or to be more specific, for the last existing folder in that imaginary file location). Both folders are on the same mounted share with the same permission setup.

Isn´t it much more likely that Immich uploads the file into the upload folder and then moves them to the library when applying the file storage template and during that steps somehow messes up his reference to the file path? I mean the actual files end up in the desire location with the correct folder and naming schema. The only thing that is missing is that the path which the immich server uses to show me the full size images points to a nonsense location.

did you look for the file mentioned in the posted image? what's the full path of it?

yeah, the pattern is the same for all "non working" files. For example
he tries at: 'upload/library/admin/2025/June/14-IMG-PXL_20250614_141250341.jpg'
file is at: 'library/admin/2025/June/14-IMG-PXL_20250614_141250341.jpg'

thats why I assume that he moves the files from upload to library but fails to correctly update his filepath while doing that

no, because upload/libraryupload/library is the correct internal folder. the temporary folder is upload/uploadupload/upload and in there, the files are named with an UUID. and since you are finding the file in the correct place, then the move operation was successful.

just to be sure in case it makes a difference for permissions. Just now I connected onto the docker instance via portainer and executed the ls from within that console instead of doing it with your command. I can try to to execute it from outside the container if thats important

everything looks fine permission wise, although you are showing 14-IMG-PXL_20250614_141250341.jpg while in the log file is asking for 27-IMG-PXL_20250327_122728367.jpg

Whatever magical thing is preventing him from accessing those files from 20.02 or later can be fixed by accessing the folder from my windows machine... Just by validating the existance of the file on the network share by connecting with my windows machine on the share and looking at the files I just fixed it for all files in that folder

Today I encountered the issue again and tried as asked. Once I noticed that some images were not working I navigated into the matching folder on the container and did an ls. That one took multiple seconds until something happened (only the first one, calling it again afterwards was instant). Then I could refresh my browser and the images for that folder would load again. Whats really interesting is that its not always full folders that stop working, sometimes I can access half of all images inside a folder.

Ok I'm probably thinking of something else then. I don't know how to advise you on this as it's not an immich problem, it has some issue with how the container has mapped access to the storage
