✅ Should the Domain Layer perform validation?

I'm trying my best to follow CA but a lot of things trip me up, and when I google or even ChatGPT my questions I get mixed responses that confuse me more than help me.

This is my current project structure, I opted to stick to using controllers instead of minimal api's for this particular project

I think the structure itself is good, I just get annoyed by the fact that DTO's are in two layers now seems counter intuitive tbh, but I've accepted it. My current issue is now with the Domain Layer. I have my entities all in there and I was curious if instead of using the

SomeEntity {get; set;}

SomeEntity {get; set;}

I make my own methods and perform validation directly inside of the method. For example:

    public void Rename(string newName)
    {
        if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(newName))
            return Result.Failure("Crate name cannot be empty.");

        Name = newName;
        UpdatedAt = DateTime.UtcNow;
    }

    public void Rename(string newName)
    {
        if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(newName))
            return Result.Failure("Crate name cannot be empty.");

        Name = newName;
        UpdatedAt = DateTime.UtcNow;
    }

My problem with that is now I'm using my result pattern inside of the Domain layer which I shouldn't be doing, because the Domain layer shouldn't know anything about the application layer. Which lead me to the option of making another Project called shared and moving my Reuslt pattern to there, but then couldnt I also move my Dtos there as well and not have Dto's in both the Api and Application layer? Is this even a valid approach, and I over complicating things?
