Memory Profiler in Visual Studio 2022 silently fails to create snapshot

I'm trying to profile 32 bit .Net Framework 3.5, Winforms application.
Memory profiler starts normally.
When I click "Create Snapshot" Visual Studio shows "creating snapshot" with an indeterminate progressbar in the bottom left corner of profiler window/pane.
After a few seconds, the text disappears, and a new snapshot is not added to the list.
There's no message box saying what error may be, and in the text output I can only see "Profiling started" and "Profiling stopped".
Is there anything I can do to at least get an error message out of that?
