postgres & redis version for my podman guide

I'm providing a guide for Podman. One problem I've encountered is that the versions of Redis and the DB are updated by the Renovate bot on the Compose. One way to be up to date would be to manually change the versions on every Compose update, but this could be annoying in the long term. Is there an alternative solution I could use in this situation? Something like the :release option on the immich-server image for example?

this would definetly work great for redis. i guess i would have to change the postgres image more often because of more versions, eg. postgres:14-vectorchord0.4.30.4.3-pgvectors0.2.00.2.0

Yes, because it will break your setup if you go directly from pgvectors to vectorchord without a release that has both

If it's brand new, go straight to postgres:16-vectorchord0.4.3

I think it may need 17-vectorchord0.4.3-pgvectors0.3.017-vectorchord0.4.3-pgvectors0.3.0 because of the way the base images are tagged

besides the guide, If I undestand correctly I can upgrade from postgres:14-vectorchord0.4.3-pgvectors0.2.0 to 17 on my home setup correct?

You cannot upgrade between major postgres versions willy nilly

For fresh installs it doesn't matter, but for existing you should stick with the major version

I've come to the conclussion of leaving out the hash on the valkey image and making a comment mentioning other versions with 14 being the default for the database
