Blurry images when disconnected from server

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the purpose of generating thumbnails to be able to at least display low resolution versions of images when app is disconnected from the server?

If not then are the thumbnails pnly used for faster machine learning?

It still needs to download these thumbs some time, this only happens when you scroll over them

There is also only so much you can have in the app, imagine people with very large image libraries, they'd have dozens of gigabytes of thumbs in their app?

Myself for example, I have 40GB of thumbs, I'm very thankful this isn't auto-synced to the app

hmm that actually makes sense although it does make me wonder how apple and google manage still having thumbnails when browsing even very old pictures

Unless the images were first on your device, or at some point scrolled over to download the thumbnails
