Metadata missing after continous sync of shared album

A friend shared an album with me and right now the only way to truly "own" the photos is to download them and re-upload them into a new album. Interestingly, the "continuous sync" seems to already pick up on shared albums. I just took these files and re-uploaded them via the browser (to add a "tag" for my friend to remember where the photos came from). It seems that photos work, but the .mp4 are all stripped from the meta-data (date & location being the important ones). In addition, they all have broken thumbnails.

If I check the broken file in the shared album, metadata (including date and location data) is intact and all good. I checked and the files' metadata on the backup folder on windows and they are already missing there. The important pattern I see is that they are all .mp4 files.
