Never seen that one before, I'm guessing you'll just need to experiment starting with 0 mods and adding half your mods back in at a time
uhhh so the problem with this is that the person whose hosting the server is actually genuinely terrible at troubleshooting
and the issue only occurs when we're joining his world
it occurs to other people to its not just a me issue
the most I can get him to do is post the logs, but if we add half the mods back in a time he's going to crash out and just not do it
and I literally cannot replicate the same issue in my own server with friends joining so it'd have to be him specifically doing it
Well, I took a look at the logs you sent, they don't seem to indicate any other errors, so I'm not sure. Have you tested other people joining a server you are hosting? Also, the server.log you sent me is your server.log, I think, not theirs.
its weird because the last time I had an issue this same issue kept popping up but nobody could figure out why it was happening
also yeah it is mine

but we could usually just brute force our way into the server by rejoining a bunch
now it just fully prevents us from joining
well, you might need to restart the client after this error, it's quite exceptional
I would also clear out any client-side only mods, and probably clear out your configs as well, just to be absolutely sure everyone is on the same settings. Some mods incorrectly use client-side and some mods have issues with properly handling config values changing.
I could check since I have the same config he's using
I dont think we really changed the config of anything except the quality of terraria mod
and a fargos infinite potions thing
how would I go about clearing out my configs or client-side mods? just disabling them?
and then try joining after I disable all client-side mods?
Configs are stored in C:\Users\doget\Documents\My Games\Terraria\tModLoader\ModsConfigs\ , you can rename that folder for this test. And yeah, disable client side mods, then restart the client just to be sure. The game should launch with just normal mods and no modifications from configs.
are you saying if I rename the \ModsConfigs\ folder and do nothing else it'll reset configs until I name it back?
If you do this with the host and the clients, that's the best bet to rule out the possibility that config values or client-side mods are causing issues.
yeah, if you close the game right after
kk
he's afk rn so I guess I can try to tell him to do that once it happens
idk how active you are but it usually takes a while for any of these guys to get on
so it might be a bit before I update you
srry in advance
I disabled all my client sided mods and I get this when I try to join now

I AM able to join however

If I brute force it like I mentioned earlier
I enable my client-sided mods and I get this

yeah, I still don't have a clue. clientside mods and configs were the most likely cases, but maybe some normal mod is causing this
If you dont have a clue this is likely an unsolvable issue
it doesnt really matter tho since we're able to brute force it for now
if you had to guess, which mod do you think would be causing the issue
no idea, you have tons
my fault
why does it say Player.MaxBuffs tho
is it maybe a mod related to buffs?
Could be, or it could be some sort of networking error. A bunch of data about mods is sent when you connect, so it's possible if there is some desync happening somehow the server is sending, for example, 100 bytes, and the client reads only 50 for one part of the message. Then the client tries to read how many buffs are supposed to be enabled and it reads garbage data, like a 0.
its weird tho since most of our mods are client sided (66)
and disabling the client sided mods causes the issue still
actually, the fact that your client is saying it expected 44 and then 143 is strange. That does suggest some mod is actually changing the max buffs, if you can disable that maybe something can work better
I can list the ones that would do that if you want

these are the only mods we have that mess with buffs
in anyway
and theres the client side mod that hides buffs

but I dont think its increasing the amount since I disabled it earlier and nothing happened
we had a bit of a conflict earlier in the run where Fargo's infinite potions was conflicting with Quality of Terraria infinite potions and we had to change the config
to be more balanced I guess
but other than that we touched nothing regarding buffs & configs

uhhh could it be this @jopojelly
I didnt change anything
so idk if 22 is the default or not
nor am I exactly sure what additional buff slots does (isnt the max already like 100 in basegame terraria?)
I think 22 is the default max.
As of 1.4.4, the vanilla max buffs is 44.
Ah, our docs are out of date, that's correct.
it says additional tho
so ontop of 44 its 66?
so how did we get to 143
its 44 with basically no mods installed
and 143 with
yeah, that's what's so weird. The client reporting 143 is weird and can't be accounted for by networking issues, so something must be adding 99 for some reason
and nothing comes up in logs
im so lost
Have you been able to repliate the issue locally yet?
no
part of that is because it takes forever for these guys to get on tho
so testing things is like
1 step at a time every day
oh, I meant like, host and play, testing just by yourself to try to replicate the error
I havent found anyone to test it with so far is what im saying
but from what ive seen when we do test it doesnt seem like it can be replicated as easily as joining the server
I was suggesting just joining your own server to try to replicate, not needing another player, but who knows if your error requires connecting to another player.
oh right
I can try that right now actually
yeah nah
its specifically when connecting to another player I believe
