Guide to import Apple photos

Hi all, Thanks for this wonderful app. I just started setting everything up and works great. Google photos import is finished and now working on the iCloud Photos by exporting the original files from the photos app and started the transfer process via Immich-go. Had some problems with their Apple takeout. Would you recommend using this instead of exporting? Everything works like a charme, except that I saw that the aae sidecar from Apple is not included and not added to the photos as it’s not possible yet. Question now would be to know how others imported the photos. As I used unmodified i receive (in my thinking the original) but as I understand now if I want to use the portraits I have to export it as modified which is normally smaller even with original settings Do you have some guidance on this? As I read that the Immich app handles it differently by storing a copy of the portrait would it be a valid approach to download all photos via iCloud to my phone and then do the sync via official app? Would it be easier to transfer everything to google again and then do a takeout there?

Does Google allow for aae import/convert?

They have their own interpretation of the aae. Need to check how they do the export.

Maybe this can help you: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/discussions/21251 note, that approach consciously will skip some stuff, please read and understand the osxphotos man page carefully And don’t use immich-go It won’t work fine, it doesn’t understand half of the meta data Apple produces

Neither do a direct import with the app. Again, too much will be messed up after because the app somehow doesn’t understand/grab the data the same way as osxphotos does. You’ll end up with a massively messed up timeline The way I documented above worked to the dot for me, give or take about 100 pics which ended up skewed and I fixed manually
