Synchronisation on iphone duplicates
Hey, am I the only one that has realised that whenever you log in on an iPhone and try to set your photo's for an automatic backup, it continues to duplicate all assets by re-uploadiung them? Any way this could be fixed?

- Your docker-compose.yml and .env files.
- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l
and df -h
).
- The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.
Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots.

Successfully submitted, a tag has been added to inform contributors. :white_check_mark:The server will reject exact duplicates. If they are actually getting uploaded then they aren't exact matches to anything on the server
Oh. Then maybe something wrong with iCloud? I mean it definitely just duped
If they aren't byte for byte matches to what exists on the server they won't be rejected
So missing or differeing metadata could make them not match
The issue you describe is due to immich and iPhone not playing nice with each other. Immich can’t deal with iPhones „optimized“ library, this is very clear from weeks of tests I meanwhile did.
What you’ve to do is back up ALL your assets once using immich cli based on an export of osxphotos and then, and only then, enable the app on your phone, and once the phone is done hashing - and only then - enable backup of your recents.
See https://github.com/immich-app/immich/discussions/21251
that’ll work.
Note that it will still look like creating a dupe each time it backs up a pic but you’ll notice only short time, and one dupe will be local, the other remote. Once it’s uploaded the dupe will „disappear“ and properly show once only.
