Two Users, Same Picture, Space efficient?
I have a bunch of pictures that my wife wouldn't want in her timeline. So I've created two accounts, one for each of us. That's probably really common. But I'm not sure how sharing would work. I would maybe make her a partner and she could just pick out anything she wanted to take it from my timeline to hers? Would that be space-efficient? Or basically a whole new picture with the same content?
Open to any recommendations on how to do this before I make common mistakes. Thanks!

Successfully submitted, a tag has been added to inform contributors. :white_check_mark:There is no filter for which partner assets you show in the timeline right now
Shared albums don't show in the timeline either
So for your use case right now there is no straightforward solution
I really want to prefer Immich over Nextcloud. I have both set up, and Immich won me over on the ops side. Just trying to get something working for our household.
Depending on your setup and number of images etc. you could also move the private content to the locked folder? Then she won't see it in the shared timeline.
is really a deal breaker to have the shared photos in the timeline? we use shared albums only and works great. Basically the same flow we've been using in gphotos
Wait. Shared show or don't show in the timeline? I'm confused.
Shared albums do not show in the timeline.
Okay, I think this might be fine. I have my phone, and she has her phone. And we can be partners. And she can dive into my timeline and put pictures in our shared albums, and vice versa?
Seems like a bug. You can add partner shared photos to an album if you have "Show in timeline" but only from the album itself. Not from the timeline or asset view.
Maybe that bug is fixable. Doesn't seem like it would require some architectural shift.
I'm sure it is, whether it happens before or after the larger planned sharing overhaul though, I don't know
What big thing will the overhaul bring us?
It's still being discussed but eventually I believe the goal is to improve asset ownership and sharing. Past that it's hard to say. Highly requested though.
What's the biggest complaint behind this smaller bug you just pointed out?
What do you mean?
Some user facing need must be motivating the overhaul, right?
Oh it's just general want of better sharing. You can read here from the parent issue: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/issues/12614
I hope the people who do everything with face tagging don't dominate the feature requests. All I really need is convenient ways to organize and share things manually. We take pictures of all kinds of things without faces.
Also, I think album nesting would be nice. I'm faking it with prefixed names.
I might add my $0.02 to the issue.
