self host ente
I have a quick question: what happens if, for example, I back up the encrypted photos from my instance to another device and then want to restore my photos to Ente Photos (still on my instance)? How does my instance decrypt the backup? How does it work?

When backing up a self-hosted Ente Photos instance, the actual encrypted photos are stored in the object storage. However, this encrypted data is not usable without the database, as the database contains file-specific encryption keys.
To decrypt your data, you need the encrypted file data from the object storage backup, the encrypted file and collection-specific encryption keys from the database backup, and the master key, which comes from your password. You can find more information on backing up your instance at https://help.ente.io/self-hosting/administration/backup#backing-up-your-ente-instance.
