SMM Webview2 overlapped io operation in progress
I have tried wiping out every trace of SMM and Satisfactory, still doesnt after install. Process starts up, silently crashes.
From the logs, it's trying to load the steam library from my F:\ - this does not house my steamlibrary. It should be a different drive - why/how is it getting this drive letter for steam and how do I change that. Also, is the Webview2 error normal? That seems to be the last thing said before the process dies.

If you're experiencing issues with installing the "Microsoft Edge WebView Runtime" try running the installer as administrator.
If you have objections to installing Microsoft Edge, rest easy. It's not Edge. Microsoft just brands WebView that way.
WebView is already installed - the error is saying that theres a colliding IO operation
Yep wrong command, sorry!
>reinstallwebview
The Webview2 runtime on your system is broken somehow. You can properly clean it up using https://github.com/ShadowWhisperer/Remove-MS-Edge/raw/refs/heads/main/Remove-EdgeWeb.exe, then reinstall it using the Evergreen Bootstrapper from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/?form=MA13LH#download. You may need to run the Bootstrapper as admin for it to succeed.
thats a 404 - also theres a 0% chance I'm running a random exe from github to uninstall a core system component my friend.
Fair enough, I don't know of any other way to properly remove webview though so you may be out of luck
You only know how to uninstall software by running random exes from github?
seems strange.
Here's a more appropriate option for the future

How to Uninstall/Reinstall Edge - Microsoft Q&A
Edge keeps crashing in Windows 11. I have already tried quite a few troubleshooting steps suggested here and it's still not fixed. The last suggestion I received before reinstalling Windows is to reinstall Edge. (Not repair/reinstall from the…
I have not needed to uninstall that component of windows personally. It's not edge

These instructions look more promising to me
right, but webview uses edge and comes with it
so you uninstall and reinstall edge, you do webview2 by proxy
Nope it's entirely separate from my understanding
You do not need edge installed to have webview, and uninstalling edge will not remove webview

AI doesn't know shit
Yes it uses the same rendering engine
The install is separate

any ways.
I will try to reinstall webview
fixed the bot to have an updated download link
you are free to try whatever you'd like on your own computer, all we can tell you is that following that process is what fixed it for many other people in the past, use discord search if you doubt that
keep in mind you're already downloading and running random software (mods) from random people on the internet. ficsit.app mods are all put through virustotal before approved, so feel free to put that github exe through there as well
SMM itself also counts as random software from GitHub, for the record
I dont doubt that it fixed things for some people - I dont like that I'm running an exe from an untrusted source to fix a problem that is easily fixed with vanilla OS mechanics. It's risky, and its dangerous especially in the modding space given how much malware is thrown around.
I will be posting my steps to fix this without any sketchy downloads shortly.
also this "fix" is uninstalling edge and installing an old version which makes you more vulnerable - not sure why it'd have to do that if webview was separate.

full reinstall of modern edgewebview2 runtime does not fix this issue.
uninstalling this was a sketchy ass process - webviewruntime2 is important to modern windows OS. Things like Search and widgets all rely on this engine.
The error message is complaining about asynchronous operations on the engine which likely means that the code for SMM is not properly handling asynchronous operations with the WebView2 engine.
For future readers, this fix script, uninstalls edge entirely, nukes a bunch of system components and modifies windows permissions on core folders/paths to allow this to happen
Why is that a problem? Because windows as an OS uses edge webview for a bunch of components like Search, Settings, OneDrive, Windows Update etc. Not only that, but then it installs an old version of edge from MAY OF 2021. I dont think I need to explain why installing a browser from 4+ years ago is a bad idea. I'll be waiting for SMM to update as it's not been updated in over a year.
Haven't seen any reports of this issue in the past. You can try ficsit-cli in the mean time
