Pause AI Day

It would be great to establish one day as a Pause AI Day (preferably the first Saturday or Sunday of March - March 7/8 for 2026)* to have an annual globally recognized day to:
  1. Pressure Institutional and Country Accountability - pressuring AI companies to shutdown even for just a day to do safety protocols, updates, tests to ensure safe AI, and for countries to make, revise, and pass legislations on AI safety.
  2. Increase public awareness - increase petition signatures, get more social media attetntion, and have more people knowledgeable about AI safety to join the movement.
  3. Establish Cultural Shift - encourage community engagement and position AI safety as a shared responsibility.
Tasks:
  1. Establish Pause AI day website, social media, and brand
  2. Local community participation to hold Pause AI day
  3. Identify similar events and partners
  4. Sharing of materials (videos, designs, branding, posts, etc.)
  5. Increase new local communities and information database
  6. Identify needs, concerns, and challenges in various regions
*Initially the idea was July 16 to change AI appreciation day to Pause AI day instead.
However:
  1. Most legislative decisions globally happen during the months of April onwards.
  2. Institutions would have lesser concerns shutting down during the weekends, which would have a greater chance of them participating and supporting the event.
  3. Most people would be willing to join protests or activities during the weekend.
