Adding mods to AMP through SMM

I'm completely lost, it keeps saying it's failing to validate the install directory, and it also says it's unable to actually install the mods. Is there a guide anywhere for this or anyone who knows how to do it that I could talk to?

We need more information to help you. Before launching the game again, open the Mod Manager and use the "Generate debug info" option, then send the zip file produced in #help-using-mods. This ensures that your help request won't get buried and forgotten in other, non-help channels! Any sftp server application should do Alternatively, if you have direct access to the machine with the server, you could just run SMM or ficsit CLI directly on it

I do have access to the machine, and I'm running SMM on it, but I don't know what information it's needing me to input exactly

SMM generally detects installs automatically, what information is it asking for?

So, I'm not sure if it's the wrong "host", or if SMM just isn't detecting the install directory for Satisfactory itself

Ah it's because the game server build is provided by FactoryGamers01 instead of a regular source wow AMP have really made this... Interesting I'd just grab the server from steam tbh

I don't think you're going to get AMP to work, we've had loads of people over the last few weeks with exactly this problem Dunno why it's only started recently I'm also a little concerned they seem to be distributing the server in a way which may not be legal

I think that's more of a me issue, because I assumed it was asking for the name of the virtual server on SMM

Yeah you weren't connecting properly, but even if you do it won't actually work, AMP severs the connection as soon as SMM starts actually uploading a mod

So I need to "upload" them through a separate sftp program manually, like when I was modding Ark.. The first Ark, not the new one

No You still use SMM, but use a different sftp server to provide SMM access to your server install

That's the only way I can see it working with AMP, because it's using an unofficial provider for the game server which means a local SMM/ficsit-cli installation won't find it, and AMP's built in SFTP server doesn't provide enough permissions for SMM to function I wish it did, because threads like this are becoming more and more common

Yep we do everything possible to avoid that in this scene since dependencies and frequent updates make it... Unmanageable lol

Not sure where you get that info from (ChatGPT?), but AMP simply downloads the server from Steam using steamcmd

Hello random person who's jumped into someone else's support thread. Hell naw, I don't fuck with LLMs. My word choice was innacurate, I should have said Launcher. Normally the launcher is also how the game is downloaded but apparently not in this case. Either way, because the launcher (which reports as FactoryGamers01) isn't known to SMM it wouldn't be able to find it on a local install.

It's a dedicated server. No need for it to download the game I responded here because the OP posted your message in the AMP discord, asking whether it was true

Which in this case is probably half of the reason it is so poor. Servers that are just pared down games are never good. They need to be developed properly

The main dev noted a few days ago on discord that the upstream vendor that supplies the SFTP plugin that AMP has acknowledged the issue and will be issuing a patch soon

Just as an update, I contacted AMP a week ago about this issue on a Linux Server and there response, CubeCoders Staff — 24/10/2025 09:05Friday, 24 October 2025 09:05 I reached out to the SFTP component vendor who has confirmed there is an issue and they're going to issue a fix soon. I had a very similar issue. Trying to install mods on a linux server using AMP, and unable to finish the installation. I was able to get mods working on my server without changing anything on the server by downloading the mods manually. Moving the mod folders to the Mod folder in FactoryGame and then updating the default-lock.json file was a tedious, but good work around for using SMM. I can provide more detailed instructions if anyone needs it.

Among others, yeah. Near impossible to manage dependencies & keep your mods up to date which leads to many more problems being posted here Especially in this case, where a fix is inbound, I wouldn't recommend anyone follow down your path
