Game freezes when recording a vehicle path
TL;DR: Every time I try to record a vehicle path, the game freezes unrecoverably when I reach the finish line.
I've been playing a modded file for a while, not had any major issues until now, but have been building a highway network of raised roads, and whenever I try to record a vehicle path for automated tractor deliveries, it seems to work fine until I reach the finish line of the recorded path. The moment I complete the vehicle path, the game freezes and stops responding without completing the save of the path.
It feels like it gets stuck in an infinite loop. I also noticed the RAM usage of the game gradually increases until it's allocated everything available (32 GB!!). After a few seconds it starts reducing the RAM usage, but after a while goes back up to max again, in a cyclical pattern. I left the game running in this state for a good 5 minutes but it never recovered. Finally I have to force close the application.
This file has a wide variety of mods, mostly small QoL stuff. I'm pretty new to modded Satisfactory, though am a computer programmer and have a lot of experience building mod packs for a number of games. If there's a log file I can access, let me know! I wasn't able to find anything.
Attached is a list of the mods I used at one point on this file related to Vehicles. The yellow circled ones I turned off a long time ago, and the red ones I turned off in an attempt to fix this problem (though it still is happening). The other four mods are still on. Let me know if you need a more comprehensive list.

as a note: the Vehicle Path Viewer mod was causing a lot of lag while recording the path, so I'm definitely going to keep that one off. It also seems unnecessary in this version of the game lol
could you try making a copy of the save and temporarily turning off all mods, seeing if the freeze still happens in the vanilla game?
I know Digby mentioned lag when vehicle path nodes were moved via Digby Tool but I haven't heard of lag while recording
what do you mean by "unnecessary in this version of the game"? I don't think the game has a spline visualizer for it
i have a feeling the game will crash before loading if i turn off ALL mods lol... i have extra pallettes and stuff
"what happens when I load the game without mods" on

i guess I wasn't understanding what kind of visualization that mod was doing. I just meant because you can still see the arrows visually representing the path

yes i saw that, it does look cool and easier to follow
the lag i was getting was every few seconds it was skipping a about 20 frames while updating the spline (which was pretty skewed while recording anyway, since the circuit was incomplete)
but yeah, if it's causing you unusual lag, probably best to disable it
i dont think it's related to the game freezing though
I'll try turning off all mods
ok it loads 🙂 the pallette swatches just reset to a default. good to know!
recording a path now
the path saved fine, though it was a bit different since i dont have power lol
turning mods back on and will test a couple simpler types of paths
yeah specifically there were a couple pallette swatch adding mods that had warnings that the game might crash if ever removed from the save (though this was probably related to a much older version of the game).
it worked fine though! thanks for the info
hmmm... the simplest path i can make, with no stops on flat ground DID save correctly with my mods on!
gonna try a couple other simple paths
adding the truck stop doesn't make it freeze
going up and down sloped roads on a shorter path works fine too
the path i want to make is pretty long and has a lot of gradual changes, so maybe that's relevant
testing
yep, the full length path freezes and won't save
even without the truck stops
let me try this with all mods off
which mod? might be worth poking the developer to let them know
"+64 Extra Swatch Slots" by Bababooie

though i might be misunderstanding this
ive used new swatch slots but maybe didn't assign them to a specific buildable (if there's a difference, idk)
actually this mod was created this year (7/1/2025) so I doubt it's outdated
hmmmmm actually i dont think i used any of these swatches yet. I have another swatch mod that works differently
so disregard
okay, im going to try the full length path on unmodded satisfactory
let's see if it still freezes
GAME FREEZES UNMODDED!
so this may be a vanilla bug...
thanks a lot for your help @Robb (Busy) !

(it normally uses less than 5 GB RAM on this save... usually about 3.5)
"after setting as default" -> there is a right click menu for swatches where you can set what new buildings will use
wheeeeeeeeee

Satisfactory Q&A
The Satisfactory Questions and Answers website is a place to report bugs, suggest features, and look for fixes to any issues you run into.
Yeah I was looking on there. The only similar issues were from 3 years ago.
Think they'll still help me if my save was modified by mods? Even if I turn them off for testing?
Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying
it might get lower down on the list, but I can't think of much mods could do to vehicle path recording when they are uninstalled
make sure it's clear it happens even without them installed, maybe provide save file and video recording of trying to map the path
Yeah I'll post a video recording, including loading the file where it gives the warning about mods loaded lol just so they know
Thanks again! Fingers crossed. I put a lot of work into this road network and I really hope I can get it to work. :/
