Migrations failed: Error: Invalid upgrade path

Months ago I tried updating and then the server container restarted on a loop forever. I got frustrated an left it for a long while.
Weeks later I looked at logs and saw the invalid upgrade path error. I tried pruning images (incorrectly) and got frustrated again.
Now finally I'm getting back to trying again.
I have followed the instructions here first v1.132.3, then 1.133.0, 1.136.0, 1.137.0, then release
no luck
Then I saw I needed to update to vector cord, so I tried (maybe incorrectly) to update docker-compose.yml (https://docs.immich.app/install/upgrading/)
I got a yaml line error tried rolling back. Tried again. same log error the whole time.
I then thought that maybe I'm doing this wrong (obviously) so I tried stopping the container services and trying the steps again.
Now when I trying updating versions I get:
[check] database Pulled
[X] immich-machine-learning Error Manifest Unknown
[!] immich-server Interrupted
[check] redis Pulled
I'm about at my witt's end. Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi, You're my only hope.
