Editing pivot data of Relationship not working

I created a RelationshipManager and I can Attach to my relationship with a pivot field.
This works properly, and I can display the pivot data in the relationship table as you can see in the first 2 screenshots.
My issue is, if I click Edit next to the relationship, the "Role" field won't get filled.
Also, if I create a new Contact form outside the relationship manager, the pivot field is still displayed and shouldn't.
