Moltbot still using the old clawdbot binary (Mac OS installation)

On macOS, even after running:

curl -fsSL https://molt.bot/install.sh | bash

you may still see:

which moltbot

-> moltbot not found

which clawdbot

-> /opt/homebrew/bin/clawdbot

and:

clawdbot --version

-> 2026.1.24-3 (or similar)

This happens because:
• The macOS installer is conservative.
• If it detects an existing /opt/homebrew/bin/clawdbot, it does not replace it.
• The “Migration complete” message refers to workspace layout (e.g. ~/clawd), not to upgrading the binary.
• As a result, you stay on the legacy Clawdbot build, which:
• has no moltbot binary,
• has no self update,
• has no models add,
• does not expose Ollama in the UI.

So even after reinstalling, you’re effectively “stuck” on the old generation.

What we observed
• moltbot never appears in PATH.
• The installer log shows:

+ local claw=/opt/homebrew/bin/clawdbot
+ /opt/homebrew/bin/clawdbot onboard

meaning it continues to use the old binary.

• Removing ~/.clawdbot and re-running the installer still results in clawdbot being reused.
• On current macOS builds, Moltbot is still effectively shipped as clawdbot.

Practical outcome

On macOS today:
• clawdbot is Moltbot.
• You cannot use:
• moltbot …
• self update
• models add
• Ollama as a first-class provider

The only fully supported path right now is to use OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini with clawdbot.

This isn’t user error—it’s a real gap between the Windows/Linux builds (already on Moltbot + Ollama) and the current macOS channel, which is still on the Clawdbot generation.

Hopefully this saves someone else a few hours of head-scratching.
