How to proxy a request and inject headers from the session

Is there a correct way to proxy requests to a url,

/api/*

/api/*

for instance? I looked at using something like http-proxy-middleware or http-proxy but they all expect Node Request/Response. I have a AI hand-rolled proxy right now but it feels like there should be a better way? My one interesting requirement is injecting a header with an auth token that is on the app session, which is why I think it needs to be a TanStack Start route so it can access the session. Any thoughts?
