I'm able to set up a whatsapp succesfully, but I want to change to Telegram. Been chatting to my bot the whole afternoon and he tried several fixes, all unsuccesfully. It seems openclaw is unable to find the token that the botfather has created.
I am hosting via VPS.
I am not technical at all, hoping someone can help. First time here.
System Information
- OS: Linux 6.8.0-90-generic (x64)
- Node: v22.22.0
- OpenClaw Version: 2026.2.1
- Installation Type: VPS (Hostinger)
Problem Description
The Telegram channel remains in SETUP (no token) state despite multiple attempts to configure the token via openclaw.json (manual edit), openclaw configure (CLI), and environment variables.
Steps Taken
1. Manually added the token to /root/.openclaw/openclaw.json under channels.telegram.token.
2. Executed openclaw configure --section channels.telegram.token "..." --section channels.telegram.enabled true.
3. Verified the token exists in the config file on disk using cat.
4. Performed multiple openclaw gateway restart cycles.
5. Ran openclaw doctor, which reported no issues with the config file structure.
Current Status (openclaw status --deep)
