Gateway 400 Error - "reasoning was provided without its required following item"
Environment:
• Gateway: 2026.2.15
• Mac app: 2026.2.14 (macOS)
• Primary model: MiniMax-M2.1
• Fallback: Google Gemini-2.5-flash
Issue:
Periodically (randomly, every few hours), gateway starts sending malformed messages to Telegram. Error:
400 Item 'rs_0e9058ecee8b53bf00699386e84890819791bdb592ab0163bc' of type 'reasoning' was provided without its required following item
This breaks all Telegram communication - messages don't get through.
What I've tried:
• Model switches (GPT-5
MiniMax) - doesn't help
• Thinking on/off - doesn't help
• Happens with BOTH GPT-5 AND MiniMax
Workaround:
Only openclaw gateway restart fixes it. After restart, works fine for a few hours until it happens again.
Notes:
• No errors in gateway logs (~/.openclaw/logs/gateway.log)
• RPC probe stays "ok" throughout
• Gateway doesn't crash, just gets into bad message state
