My agents can't spawn specific sub agents.

I have three separate instances running so three agents running with separate memory.md etc.
I want them to use specific models for specific via spawning sub agents. If task at hand involves x then the agent will spawn a sub agent with model Deepseek R1 if task at hand involves y then agent will spawn a sub agent with model Claude Sonnet 4.6.
However the agent always resorts to spawning a sub agent of its primary model, in this instance Deepseek R1, is there something I am missing?
