Gateway Auth Cascade Failure
Context

The Bug
Automatic config reloads (triggered byeditopenclaw.jsonSymptoms
- Immediate report ofNo API key found for provider "anthropic"- Loss of "auth-trust" prevents subsequent tool use.
- Rotating handshake system for Control UI breaks (1008: token_missing/mismatch).
- System becomes nearly unrecoverable without manual intervention.
Initial Recovery Procedure
1. Stop LaunchAgent (launchctl2. Manual restore of
openclaw.jsonedit3. Foreground run with explicit token:
openclaw gateway run --token "MagicDave2026"4. Force-pair UI via localStorage clear + manual token entry.
Workaround Implemented (2026-02-23)
Added baked token toopenclaw.jsonThis bypasses the broken auth-trust mechanism entirely. Gateway starts with hardcoded token instead of relying on authentication store/environment.
