After updating to the newest version 2026.2.25 and restarting it gives me a message:

I hade node version 24, but then tried with version 22 and I get same message and cannot start openclaw. Pls. help

Solution

id -u
ls -ld /tmp/openclaw /tmp/openclaw-$(id -u)

id -u
ls -ld /tmp/openclaw /tmp/openclaw-$(id -u)

Usually the quickest fix is to delete the bad temp dirs and let OpenClaw recreate them with safe perms:

sudo rm -rf /tmp/openclaw /tmp/openclaw-$(id -u)

sudo rm -rf /tmp/openclaw /tmp/openclaw-$(id -u)

Then start OpenClaw again.

If you don’t want to delete them

Make sure they are real directories (not symlinks), owned by your user, and not group/other-writable (0700 is ideal):

sudo chown -R "$USER:$USER" /tmp/openclaw /tmp/openclaw-$(id -u)

sudo chown -R "$USER:$USER" /tmp/openclaw /tmp/openclaw-$(id -u)
