Webchat: text vanishes when tool calls follow text in same response
Hey @Krill π¦ β we spoke before about the webchat disappearing messages bug (issue #33641, which you helped patch with mergeByStableKey). That patch fixed messages vanishing when the NEXT message streams in.
But we've hit a DIFFERENT variant of the same class of bug:
What happens: When the assistant sends a response containing text output followed by tool calls (write, exec, edit) in the SAME response turn, the text portion vanishes from the webchat UI. Only the tool call blocks remain visible.
Reproduction:
1. Agent sends ~2000 words of text (grading + teaching content)
2. Agent then makes tool calls in the same turn (e.g., saving a note file, running a checkpoint script, editing state)
3. The text disappears from webchat β tool call indicators remain
4. Text is still visible in TUI and session logs
Workaround: Ordering all tool calls BEFORE text output works β text stays visible when it's the last thing in the response with no trailing tool calls.
Environment: macOS arm64, Node v25.6.1, latest stable OpenClaw, Telegram + webchat

This is high impact for us β we're using the webchat for medical exam study with long-form teaching responses (1000-2000 words). Losing them silently is brutal.
Any ideas for a permanent fix similar to the mergeByStableKey approach? Wondering if the same loadChatHistory() race condition is at play, or if this is a rendering issue where tool call blocks cause a re-render that drops the preceding text content.
