Middle Earth Shadow of War gog Edition not starting

With mfc140 ddl installed through Winetricks and Wine-GE-Proton7-31 I'm getting at least a short visual indicator, that the game is loading. But after some seconds it just stops. Tried different Wine versions but without any luck. Anything else I can do / try out to make this game work?

Never enable “use Steam runtime” on the Deck

the option is not even there for Wine-GE-Proton7-31, only if I select Proton-GE-Proton7-XY (and I tried deactivating it there, still no difference)

The thing is, it did work once in the past, could start the game and play it. But not anymore and I don't get what the changes are

Don’t use Proton. Use Wine-GE
