A curveball i gotta add is that for some reason i am unable to port forward

Search for reverse proxy, but that also required forward port 80 and 443

Tailscale
Tailscale
Tailscale is a zero config VPN for building secure networks. Install on any device in minutes. Remote access from any network or physical location.

Basically there are a few different pieces of software you can run on the local network that gives you access remotely. Then you'd be able to connect, even without port forwarding

Because there are many different way of reverse proxy or expose your network, so it doesn't fit into the scope of Immich I see is there any reason you cannot expose ports?

mightybenoOPβ€’3y ago

Alex Tran
Alex Tranβ€’3y ago

Self hosting/expose network/reverse proxy/ddns Those are the topics that can help you further understand the setup and how to move forward If you have a specific question don’t hesitate to come back here and discuss

One really simple tool is ngrok IDK if that's the best for for this long term, but you could definitely test it out. I've also heard a lot of people use cloud flare tunnels, which i think are similar, although I don't personally have experience with those.

im gonna try ngrok do you know what specifically is the name of what im trying to do with it? ok so

@jrasm91 this works very well the only issue is that i can only transfer up to 1GB/mo

jrasm91β€’3y ago
Ahhh, i didn't know about that limit So i think there are a bunch of similar tools that basically work the same way to enable remote access.

Nice. I luckily have open ports that work for me 😁
Alex Tran
Alex Tranβ€’3y ago
I suggest you figure out if you can open a port, otherwise you have to depends on third party services that might hinder the performance of all the services that you host

i will need to hunt down a laptop with ethernet to be able to connect to my modem
