A curveball i gotta add is that for some reason i am unable to port forward
Search for reverse proxy, but that also required forward port 80 and 443
hmmm
maybe look into something like Tailscale
Tailscale
Tailscale
Tailscale is a zero config VPN for building secure networks. Install on any device in minutes. Remote access from any network or physical location.
how would i implement it?
Look into the docs
they should have very detail implementation guide
Basically there are a few different pieces of software you can run on the local network that gives you access remotely.
Then you'd be able to connect, even without port forwarding
if you dont mind me asking under which category?

Ah the docs of Tailscale
since it doesn't related to Immich
ohhh
thats why i wanted to ask
im a beginner on this, doing this to try it out to see if i use it later
Because there are many different way of reverse proxy or expose your network, so it doesn't fit into the scope of Immich
I see
is there any reason you cannot expose ports?
i dont know
ive tried in the past to host a fivem server to play with my friends but just nothing happens
i dont know if its my isp or the way its set up in my house
So you tried to open port within your router, and your modem?
i opened it in the router
how do i do it in the modem?
depends on the modem
you will have to login into the modem to see
its one of those fiber optic modems
each brand has different setting interface
but should have some setting regarding to port forwarding
let me go check the brand

fiberhome
you have to access to the web interface of the modem and look for that port forwarding option
i have to look for a laptop with ethernet
do you know of a relatively simple way of doing so?
Hmm π€ look like there is a big switch at your house, is that belong to someone else or to you?
that belongs to me
There are many way to expose your network, you best teacher for now I think is Google
Try to experiment
what should i look for?
Self hosting/expose network/reverse proxy/ddns
Those are the topics that can help you further understand the setup and how to move forward
If you have a specific question donβt hesitate to come back here and discuss
One really simple tool is ngrok
IDK if that's the best for for this long term, but you could definitely test it out.
I've also heard a lot of people use cloud flare tunnels, which i think are similar, although I don't personally have experience with those.
im gonna try ngrok
do you know what specifically is the name of what im trying to do with it?
ok so
i set it up

from my computer it wors

but on my phone it gives me this error
add
/api
maybe?ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
im stupid
thanks
np
@jrasm91 this works very well the only issue is that i can only transfer up to 1GB/mo
Ahhh, i didn't know about that limit
So i think there are a bunch of similar tools that basically work the same way to enable remote access.
Localtunnel ~ Expose yourself to the world
Expose yourself to the world
they work just that if you close it and repoen it you get a new url
cloudfare looks like it may work but i need a domain and freenom is not working

Nice. I luckily have open ports that work for me π
I suggest you figure out if you can open a port, otherwise you have to depends on third party services that might hinder the performance of all the services that you host
i will need to hunt down a laptop with ethernet to be able to connect to my modem
how can you manage a network and switches without a machine with ethernet port?
i dont manage a network
this is my home
that is just a patch panel
got it
welcome to self-hosting anyway π
it will be fun
thanks!
cant wait
