Game not launching (Cyberpunk 2077 - Epic)

I installed dependencies. I picked another Wine version instead of Proton (Wine 7.14GE) but the game still won't launch (Epic Game)

0108:err:module:import_dll Library mfc140u.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\\home\\deck\\Games\\Heroic\\Cyberpunk2077\\redprelauncher.exe") not found means you are missing the visual c++ runtime First of all, don't use wine...-LoL, those wine version should ONLY be used for League of Legends, try again with Wine-GE-Proton7-34, the game should work out of the box with this version of wine If you still have the same error as before, do this: - go to the game settings - click the WINETRICKS button - Winetricks should pop up - click Accept with the default prefix option selected - select the Install a Windows DLL or component option - click Accept - search vcrun2019 in the list, check that option - click Accept - wait for the process to finish and click Cancel until winetricks is closed try to run the game, if it still fails share a new log

The reason I tried another Wine version is because the standard one (Proton 7) doesn't launch the game either)

now, will i have to do all this again if the Steam Deck updates? Someone said it will overwrite the Wine deps?

only if you unlocked your deck into dev mode iirc.. ive updated my deck several times and anything installed through heroic has stuck around properly

ok so I was able to launch the first page of the game but when I hit Play there, I got the "Woah, cyberpunk has flatlined"

Since you tried different wines your prefix might be messed up (it should work out of the box with Wine-GE-Proton, but changing wine versions can setup the prefix differently), so first think I'd recommend is to delete this folder /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/Cyberpunk 2077 (note this is NOT the game, it's the wine prefix), then run the game again and see if that works I remember testing Cyberpunk 2077 on the deck and it just worked with that wine

I uninstalled the game and am reinstalling it. This time I was able to pick the Wine-GE-Proton right away since the dependencies have been installed now of course. The first time I installed the game they weren't installed yet (I didn't know I needed those) so hopefully that will fix everything. I will let you know what happens once I have tested. Nope, still crashing. I completely uninstalled the game, removed all files from the steam deck. Re-installed with the correct Wine, took the steps again to get the prefix. It is still crashing after the initial landing page. "Woah, cyberpunk has flatlined"

reinstalling the game will almost always do nothing to improve the situation you are literally removing and putting back the same files (and burning up data) if you suspected corrupt install (for future reference) you can use the repair option in heroic instead.. and it will validate the files and get new ones if needed

FYI: On steam deck the wine dependecies are installed. So no need to disable like readonly mode.

was this started in desktop mode?

well, since arieljuod suspected there might have been corrupted files from changing the Wine version. And repairing I had already tried and that didn't do anything. This was started in desktop mode yes... except, it didn't show any other dependencies than the standard Proton..? Anyway, this is new to me, so it is all a bit confusing

changing the wine version wouldn't corrupt the game data files. that would affect the prefix though

I just realized that the version that works out of the box for me is the GOG version, I don't own the Epic version to try (I just tried the GOG one and it just worked), I know some people skip the launcher using an alternative exe in heroic's settings? I mean, if the launcher is the issue

fascinating-indigoOP3y ago
yeah it sounds like that might be the issue. ok, I will try that later and will get back to you. Thanks for the suggestion, and for your help in general with this! I tried using the cyberpunk exe directly with Heroic, but when i do that it crashes even faster

Unfortunately it looks like I am going to have to cut my losses. I can't get it to run so I might have to buy the game again from Steam this time. It is really game related though, because I am able to run other games from Epic on the steam deck, as well as GOG games and Origin games. It is only Epic's CyberPunk so far that I am not able to run.
