added to steam but removed non-steam game.... can't add back, pls help
Steam deck
OK so I added a game from the heroic launcher and it showed up in steam game mode..... OK so far.
I had some problems with launch option so I removed the shortcut , however I removed it using "removed non-steam game" and NOT from heroic launcher.
Now I can't add back using heroic .....
Does anyone know how to get round this ?????

What is the error message? Btw you only can add games in desktop mode. In gamemode steam will rewrite the shortcuts.vdf with the cached one, so the game is removed again.

There's no error message , heroic says it's added the shortcut and to restart steam, I do and there's no shortcut , I go back to desktop amd fire up heroic again and it has the option to remove shortcut ( which is also tried ) but no matter what I do I cannot add the shortcut back to my steam library from heroic

you aren't supposed to install games, add/remove shortcuts or do any major library adjustments from game mode
restart Steam and Heroic in desktop mode so that each sees the most updated version of shortcuts.vdf

Yea I tried that too, but in heroic it says adding to steam and then it thinks it's been added so heroic says remove from steam and it will let me but it never shows up in steam no matter what I do now

If you mean in desktop before starting steam I have tries that too , it's worth noting I can add other games to steam from heroic without issue it's just this one game
For some reason the act of me removing it from steam in game mode makes it unable to reinstate from heroic in desktop mode

Just go desktop mode. Close steam there. Remove/add it again. Restart steam

Delete the shortcuts.vdf
But this remove all added non steam games

OK, deleted shortcuts.vdf, restarted, dropped into desktop, added the games back........ all came back EXCEPT the game I'm having a problem with, the shortcut is not there .......

Omg...... I'm not sure how but when I go to steam on desktop it seems the icon was in the hidden list
OK, so it's back although I can run the game if I start heroic but the link directly to the game no longer works 😞

We set the hidden flag to false, so somehow steam added this

All the other games run OK it's just this problem game, if I am in game mode and I start the linkbto heroic and run grim dawn from inside heroic..... it starts fine, but the new link it has generated / returned from hidden it just gives the blue circle and can't quit out

Tried to bluetooth the shortcuts.vdf earlier to my phone but it won't connect, not so easy getting logs off the steam deck, where are the required logs located ?
More importantly , what is different about running the game from inside heroic to the link generated by heroic ?

Yea not sure where it is as you run the link in game mode and you just get the valve logo and it locks up dunno what is running , but if I run from game mode and goto heroic and select the game from inside there it runs properly
If I press steam button and click exit game it just says "exiting game....." but never actually let's go

For one, that’s an environment variable and set elsewhere. Second, there’s a very obvious e at the end of %command%
I’d delete the whole thing
Because it’s not doing anything helpful where you have it, and it’s more likely to break it

Just change the game settings. No need to add the shortcut again
The shortcut just starts heroic without gui and launches the game with the last game settings

OK removed the command, still doesn't start 😦 but it still works if I lauch heroic in game mode and run
OK, I have now got it too run......
In steam game mode under compatibility there is an option to force experimental proton , this was selected , it now is not and it started up.......

Oh ok. Yes never select a proton version inside steam
