death stranding on Steam Deck, crashing in game on map navigation

Death Stranding is installed via Heroic. It launches and plays great until I pull up the map and use the right thumbstick to navigate. Seems to be a driver issue. Similar issues were reported here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/7735 and here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathStranding/comments/z70tfo/linux_proton_steam_deck_crashing_anyone_else/

oh and I installed the game to my SD card after using Flatseal to expand Heroic's permissions

Until flatpak drivers are updated you can add DS executable as non steam game and launch it from steam without HGL in the middle I've tried it and it works correctly on the deck

To overcome that, you can use appimage build of Heroic. Or what m3e says above Both will use system Mesa Instead of Flatpak mesa

I've got DS executable added to steam (in desktop mode) but trying to run it doesn't really do anything. Am I missing some arguments? Just curious, who is responsible for updating those drivers? Valve, Sony, HGL, proton? Santa?

Probably the team that maintains the flatpak mesa driver (aka none of those parties) Its all open source so random group of folks working on it on their free time

AFAIR it was working out of the box. Maybe I've just selected proton experimental in the compatibility tools

Setting it to proton experimental worked to get it to launch. Last thing seems to be getting it to see my save files. Do those need to be in a different place I copied the files where they are supposed to go and the game thinks they are corrupted. I guess I'm just starting over but at least it runs. Thanks
