Tree leaves not rendering

just seeing tree stems in the distance, no leaves are rendering

If leaves are passable, or are not a full block, they will with default settings be removed like grass. You need to change the aboid block settings.

in the settings there should be option something like "blocks to avoid" that defaults to "both" you want so it's "not full"

No, not in current setting. Any block with full hit box size in any axis is trreated as full block
