One user reported (2 years ago), that the game now plays on Arch with DXVK so I tried using Winetricks for the first time and installing
dxvk
manually under a new wineprefix. I don't know if I did this wrong but ended up with the same result.
Log file is attached. Think we can get this running since it's an actual Deck verified game?Steam

fwiw, proton comes with dxvk preinstalled, you shouldnt have to install it

A bit far fetched but try making it use steam libraries(or whatever the option is, I'm not at my PC right now). Sorry if it doesn't work but it's been the magic fix on stuff like Tomb Raider 2013 for me

it worked out of the box on the deck for me with Wine-GE-Proton7-34, DXVK and VKD3D enabled
you can install Wine-GE-Proton7-34 using the Wine Manager in heroic, then set that version in the game settings in heroic, that will make the DXVK and VKD3D toggles visible, turn them on

beyond that, GE-Proton comes with the most recent DXVK
VKD3D wouldn't be required either. that's for DX12, and the game only uses 11. One thing that Among the Sleep needs is browser authentication. try running it through desktop mode to see if that helps first

I'll give this a try tonight. Thanks for the suggestion
Tried using steam libraries and it fails to open. Didn't grab a copy of the log for that attempt
Opening in desktop mode is how I always initially open any new installs via heroic to ensure they will play.
Solved: used @arieljuod 's suggestion. Installed Wine-GE-Proton7-34 using Wine manager in heroic, checked the "Install DXVK on Prefix". Game booted fine, got to menu, went back to game mode and played it just fine.
