W3 will not launch. Error says GPU not compatible DirectX 12 is required.

Well, the game is correct in that regard. VKD3D, to my knowledge, does not work on MacOS (no idea how you managed to turn it on in the first place).
You'll have to use the DX11 version of the game (not that that's a bad thing though, it's faster anyways)

So what you are saying is, I need to download the DX11 version from GOG?
It took 4 hours to DL W3 Complete version using the Heroic app, I have super fast internet. It was brutal, I had to restart Heroic multiple times just for the DL to continue.
IDK man, maybe gaming on Apple Silicon isn’t worth it.
It is looking like I’ll need to build a dedicated WinPC again just for casual gaming. I have a gaming PC in the basement 2700x, 2070s, 32gb, b450 but I gave it to my son. I’d rather play something casual on my M1, like TW3, it seems to work for many people it not my situation.
Heroic is not the answer. Crossover is not the answer. I have Parallels in a VM that is not the answer either.
Apparently TW3 complete ed on GOG is only a DX12 version, which is why it would never launch using the Crossover app.
FML looks like I’m building a cheap gaming PC, I’ve always been a Mac guy who likes to game. I wish Apple would see the potential for Mac gaming.
The complete edition includes both DX11 and DX12 versions, you just have to use "Alternative EXE" in Heroic to launch
<game path>/bin/x64/witcher3.exe
instead of <game path>/bin/x64_dx12/witcher3.exe

This is good news, thank you, I’ll try in a couple hours.
I’m thinking I should go with low to medium settings as it is only an M1 16gb 1tb MacMini, with a 1440p and a 1080p screen that I use for work
I'm not too informed about the graphical capabilities of Apple's CPUs, although the classic try-and-see sounds like a good plan
Some notes:
- One thing you definitely want to leave off (if it even shows up, not sure) is HairWorks. At least on my Linux+Nvidia setup, it crashes without some more work (that I'm not sure is possible to do on macOS)
- To get an accurate idea of performance, you'll have to restart the game. W3 is apparently prone to leak memory

Good info, I left Hairworks on my GPC. I’ll make sure to start on the lowest setting and see if I the M1 can handle more. Thanks CommandMC
