Epic won't log in
Updated heroic and on restarting my steamdeck I can no longer log into epic games. Went through the login steps and it looked like it worked but I was not actually logged in, now if I click login I webpage loads and quickly closes, I guess thinking it's already logged in. I can't see a way to clear the details to try again. What can I do? I have one warning in the logs "Failed to register protocol with OS."

Just updated but the problem is still there. I'm thinking a reset or reinstall might be necessary but will I have to reinstall all my games and will I lose my saves?
Logs don't show any errors. Says legendary :logging in: auth code redacted, then refreshing library, the no cache found, getting data from legendary and finally refreshing library but I remain not logged in and unable to play any of my games. It's been 3 days now.

go to heroic settings > logs > click show log in folder > now look for the last
legendary... .log file, it should have more details after you try to login, maybe there's an error thereambitious-aquaOP•3y ago
Thanks, says that login failed with expired exchange code. Any idea how I can get heroic to stop trying to use the expired code?

are you using herioc 2.7? we fixed some issues with the login

Yes I did update but the same thing is happening. I tried clearing the cache but that also didn't work. Do you know where it is storing the data (cookie?) it's using for authentication? I imagine if I delete it I can log in again

try deleting this file
~/.var/app/com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl/config/legendary/user.json
and on Heroic Clear the Cache

That's the problem, it won't let me, page loads and comes back to the login screen
As in no actual website loads but it follows some link, looks like it thinks it's already logged in and then closes the browser

Maybe rename the whole heroic folder there, under var/...
And try again
So it will be a clean install

As in just the legendary bit or the whole heroic path? I haven't tried a new install as I didn't fancy installing my games again but could I reinstall without having to do that? Can I somehow discover installed games?

I got it working. In advanced settings click reset, then go back to manage accounts and you can log in again. Unfortunately It seems to have lost my save games which is pretty devastating to be honest

look for the prefixes folders, I don't think we delete that information with a reset so you might be able to recover them

Other games actually seem fine just the one I was playing and attempting to play has had it's saves reset. I was manually transferring it's saves to and from my laptop so it's not the end of the world, just a few hours lost

The heroic reset command just resets the heroic settings and the game settings. So it won't delete any saves. Just select the same prefix and wine version for the game you were using before and should work just fine

Thanks both, that fixed it. It was set to something like heroic/default but when I set it to my specific game prefix folder it found my saves. Strange that the other games I tried found their saves even though they seem to all be set to the default prefix but also seem to have a game specific folder as well. But it's all working great again

Maybe you enabled cloud save for it or they store there saves in there cloud

Oh that explains it, as the game with the problem doesn't support cloud saves, hence why I was transferring saves manually

I did a reset heroic. Didn't work for me. Seemed to happen after update

If you couldn't log in but now can after a reset and now your saves are missing then open heroic, go to the settings for the game that has a problem, look at WinePrefix folder. If like me it now says default then try choosing the select new folder button, navigate up one folder and see if there is a specific one for that game, if so select it and see if your saves are working. Oh might not be related but my wine version had also changed to experimental which I changed back, not sure if that would make a difference

My saves aren't missing. I just said cloud saves are not enabled cuz someone said it might be causing the issue. My saves load fine.
Only thing that fixed it for me was going back to previous version of heroic in GitHub. I didn't change anything and it just worked. Something is wrong with the update. Skipping for now.
Also I should add I'm not using steam deck but windows on my gpd win4 so made my own post.

Oh I see you're having the log in issue, yes definitely related to the update but clearing cache and doing a reset fixed it for me but did change my save game paths
