Error when opening Epic since update
I just updated Heroic and get this error:
(yes, i logged out and in again)

did you get any new game since then? because I believe we are using the same legendary version as 2.6.2 so that should not be an issue, we saw this before maybe @CommandMC can help on that.

No, no new games.
I can start games fine, but the error comes up everytime I start heroic

nah, steam deck is English, you can't change the language in desktop mode (yea you can, but only when disabling read-only, i don't want to do that, so it's English)

it asks because it detects an issue with legendary and it does not know what it is and logging out and in again solves most of the issues

i mean, i can click it away, but it's a bit annoying if it always come up when I start heroic (or reload my library)

try updating and restarting the deck, if that does not work then lets wait to see if someone has some idea about it. I will try to search on our gh issues as well.

ok, I'll report back.
(as i said, didn't happen before, just since the new update today)
I'm on the latest SteamOS stable update, did a complete restart, error persists
Just looked at my legendary logs. The same error exists in older version, just now it is shown in heroic.
(also available games are missing a bunch in the legendary log, but obviously they are there, so no idea if good or bad)

The problem would be that your epic game name has some german letters init
If steam deck is not set to german it fails
My steam deck is set to german
Because if you wanna use english on steam deck your epic name needs to be in english letters aswell
Or a game has some letters that is not english conform
Btw ariel changed something for refreshing the library that might cause the issue with login out again
Ok not a epic name problem. The problem is that a game has the ® in is name which does not exist in ascii
Legendary somehow encodes the game list as ascii instead utf8

I think the problem now is what @arieljuod added logs you out. This maybe not happend in the old version

hmm I didn't add anything that should cause a logout though, it's just refreshing the library once instead of twice
I would recommend trying to run

As i described above. Legendary does encode ascii and some game has none ascii character like ®
But sure running legendary standalone should bring up the same error

no no no, i didn't get logged out. Its just that the error pops up every time I start heroic
and, as i wrote, the error shows up in legendary logs from before 2.7.0
but this error is a popup now when I start heroic, which didn't happen before. Should maybe make a screenshot

I believe I have the same error after updating to 2.70 . My Steam deck is in English, so is Heroic. I live in France though.
The error pops when my heroic library loads or if I refresh it.

locale in terminal ?

My taskbar is in English so that mislead me.
Could this be the reason ? It was working fine in Heroic 2.6.2 though.

yep, same error pop up.
I didn't do locale, maybe that's German for me. But idk, would be strange, everything on the decks desktop mode is English.
But yeah, this error was in the logs before 2.7, but now it's a pop up

Same problem. But not for every epic games game. I can download Saints Row 2022 from epic games. But Transport-Fever 2 from epic games not.
We could partially avoid this issue by just not running
legendary list (legendary status for example fetches an updated game list as well, while not trying to print every game out). You'd of course still get an error if you'd try to launch a game with problematic charactersstuck-chocolateOP•2y ago

Can you make an option to maybe disable this error? (afair it's just some character decode problem) it's really annoying
