Plague Tale Innocence on Steam Deck - controls problem
I'm trying to run Plague Tale Innocence on Steam Deck inside Heroic (via GOG). The in-game controls only partially work. The screen always shows the keyboard shortcuts instead of the controller keys when showing how to interact with game elements, and it always 'forgets' when i choose the controller in settings. So it shows 'E' to interact with the dog at the beginning but none of the steam deck controls do anything. Joysticks and Back controls working OK though. Any suggestions? I tried a few different Wine/Proton versions.
Also, following the FAQ guidelines I looked at installing Wine Dependencies. However, this seems to be complicated on Steam Deck by the readonly file system, so I didn't pursue this. Any advice appreciated.

Please include a game log. There's always a chance that some setting is set wrong or something in there points us in at least a general direction
following the FAQ guidelines I looked at installing Wine DependenciesThe FAQ is instructing you to install Wine Dependencies if you're not using the Flatpak version of Heroic (which you are using on the Steam Deck)

Any thoughts? From what I read it plays fine on the Steam Deck when installed directly from Steam so there must be a configuration which works for it. Shame I would like to support GOG and not just buy everything through Valve.

You bought the game because it works very well on steam.

Don't use Proton, especially not Proton Experimental. Use wine-GE, run it again

Yep, I tried that already.
I took another look at this and it seems to be working now, from my initial test. I changed a few things... Updated Heroic to latest, and used latest Wine-GE, reinstalled the game. But I think maybe the significant change was that I did 'Add to Steam' for the game and ran it from inside Steam Deck game mode. Before I was just running Heroic and launching it from there. I did that after having the same issue with another game which didn't recognise the existence of the controller - it thought I was running with mouse and keyboard. Adding to Steam and launching from there fixed it.
